Down in the Bayou Land © Artspurg SABAM 2006

- Down in the Bayou land, –
once lived a man –
Appellé Monsier Boudain, had a Cajun Band –
One day the wife she left, she had enough –
But he fiddles on; Cajuns are tough –
– – –
Il a tenu, le joi de vive –
Bought a little ape, for the lonely eve –
When he left the house, on a working day –
Ape stole the violin; it’s the monkey’s way –
– – – –
As Boudain came home, the ape was gone –
Perché sur le toit, et joue le violon –
Fierce was his bowing hand, he played for two –
A scié le violon, quite through and through –
– – –
And so Monsieur Boudain, il a pas tout –
Took a sawn-off gun’, and aimed to shoot –
Now with the monkey gone, et le violon –
Happily the wife returned, dedans la maison –
– – –
Down in the Bayou land, pendant la nuit –
Sometimes a fiddle’s heard, and you won’t sleep –
Now a story grows, day by day –
It’s a monkey’s ghost, ça c’est la vérité –
– – – – – – – – – -
