In the Unfortunate Events ending, count Olaf was revealed on his death to have ‘hidden depths’ when talking to Kit. Apperantly, they had been lovers once in a background story that was never delved into. When the siblings asked why nobody had ever told them that, and wondered what else everyone around them had been keeping hidden, Olaf said that the story was never really about them.
